Myy mom has to get her hip replaced.
After 4 years of constant chronic pain, she is finally getting it redone.
In December of 2008, she slipped on ice on the way to work. She couldn’t get up, due to being in pain. A few cars passed her, not stopping. One car, finally stopped and drove her the rest of the way (which wasn’t much, less than half a mile). She clocked in and was going to work, but nearly passed out. That’s when her co-workers had to tell her to go home. She fell around 6am. Finally got home around 9. She got a ride to the bus stop, missed the bus, and stood waiting for next one, about half an hour. She got on the bus, sat down and rode home. Got off the bus and a nice gentleman carried her across the street to our door. My dad than helped her walk inside. She laid on the couch, making sounds I never knew a human could make - she sounded possessed. My brother and I were scared shitless, my dad was freaking out. My mom was in such severe pain. She insisted she just bruised her ankle or broke it. She did not want 911 called. Finally at 11am, we took her in my dad’s old 79’ Ford to the ER, in the snow. It was so dangerous driving there, it was icy, cold and very slick out.
We ended up sitting in the ER for what seemed like hours. When she was taken into a room, she had too pee. I had to help, but couldn’t, because I can’t hold up my mom, as tiny as she is. So a nurse helped her. She was in such bad pain, I seriously was worried for her life. She stayed in there about a week, we saw her everyday, but never stayed long - because my dad was terrified of hospitals. He’s such an asshole. They treated her horribly. A nurse tried to clean her scar, but rolled her over onto it, thinking it was the opposite leg. They didn’t do physical therapy with her - like they’re supposed too.
Her leg was shorter then her non-injured one. She lived with chronic severe pain, while working her ass off for 4 years, while my dad did absolutely nothing, but disrespect her and collect unemployment. He’s been laid off work since November 2008. My brother still lives at home, helping with bills. My mom works 5-2 every day, except weekend. Doing heavy work - as a shipper/receiver at a metal shop. (The harden metals with fire heating, etc. I’m not completely sure what else they do.) My mom is a little older lady.
She’s getting her hip redone and will be out of work for 6 months, unless she gets “light-duty.” My mom is a workaholic. I’m not sure she’ll be able to sit around and not work.
Her surgery consists off re-cutting her leg, cutting the bone the grew into the previous replacement, and putting in a larger ball joint and longer femur. She’s scared, because the first time went totally wrong. I feel so bad.
